The 2010 Committee
President
Lyndsay O’Brien
Hi everyone,
My name is Lyndsay O’Brien and I am the President of NDLSS for 2010. I am a final year student who has already been at uni for 4 years so I can normally help you out.
My role as President is to steer NDLSS in the right direction, and that direction is to help the entire student body out as much as possible. Law School can be a big transition for some people, and social life is very different at University instead of High School. NDLSS is there to help you all out with whatever you need.
I live here on the campus, so I am easily available to help you at most of the time. Stop past our office in the Student Association, find us in the library, or send us an email, I’m sure whoever you want to speak to from NDLSS is more than willing to chat to you.
All the best for 2010 <president@ndlss.org.au>
Social Vice President
Genévieve Smit
Hey…I’m Genévieve and I am in my fourth and second-last year of a Law/Arts degree…
As your Social VP I should tell you what the most important thing for you to do this year is: ATTEND our super-fab EVENTS, not only because they are thrown especially for you, but also because they will make your university experience exactly that – an experience!
The reason you should trust me on this is because I have the most fun role on the NDLSS – I get to organise all the fabulous social events for you this year (which you *must* attend!)! That includes our annual Ball and Cocktail Party…even our ever-eventful Quiz Night (trust me, not as nerdy as it sounds).
So, if you love to have fun and want your events in 2010 to be absolutely amazing track me down and give me your ideas! And of course, if you have any questions about any upcoming event (even if it’s just about the dress code), email me (gsmit@nd.edu.au) or stop me on the street!
Look out for upcoming event info here on the NDLSS website, Facebook and of course around campus – there will be posters!
Careers & Education Representative
Odette Hurle
Hi! My name is Odette and in 2010 I will be the education/careers Vice President for the NDLSS. This is my final year at Notre Dame studying a Law/Arts double degree and I am so excited to graduate! I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Notre Dame and have had many wonderful experiences including a study trip to New York and also a semester studying abroad in Washington DC, interning in the US Senate & campaigning in the 2009 Presidential election. I am looking forward to 2010 as a challenging year in which we will endeavour to provide students with current and accurate information regarding clerkships, graduate positions, law firms and all things careers & education! The annual ALSA conference is in Adelaide: – this is a fantastic opportunity to meet other students and have a lot of fun so I would encourage all students to think about attending.
The NDLSS is a society for the students, so please get involved! If you have any questions, suggestions or require any assistance, feel free to contact me at: careers@ndlss.org.au
Treasurer
Pat Jeffree
I am in my penultimate year of a Bachelor of Laws/Commerce (Accounting Major). I will briefly go through the main duties and expectations that I hope to fulfil.
Being Treasurer requires more than merely doing bookkeeping. It will be necessary to liaise and negotiate with the other portfolio holders to allow for funds to be allocated in the most efficient and effective manner. I believe I have the skills to meet these tasks for a number of reasons. First, my understanding of accounting will allow me to formulate appropriate budgets, which will be the basis for distributing and obtaining funds for projects. Second, a commercial understanding of not only the realistic amount of funds required for each project but also the timeliness of earning revenue and incurring costs, should contribute to improving the financial performance and position of the NDLSS. Finally, I will endeavour to deal with the other portfolio holders in an open and frank manner regarding the issues of funding desired projects. This capability is particularly important for this portfolio position as treasurers are commonly seen as ‘NO’ persons.
Another key task of being Treasurer will involve scrutinising the financial report from the previous year in the form of a mini audit. This process will allow me to learn from any past mistakes and to build on advances made throughout the previous year. I believe that my accounting knowledge will also prove beneficial in executing this function.
The ultimate goal I have is to be able to complete the above tasks to such a level that not only the financial performance and position of the Society is greater than the previous years but also that such an advance will contribute to non-financial progression as well. treasurer@ndlss.org.au
Academic Competitions Representative
George Mallis
Hey everyone, I am George and I am in my second year of Law at Notre Dame. This is my first portfolio on the NDLSS committee and I am really looking forward to what I predict to be our best year of competitions in some time. I am rather jealous though, as I can’t compete in any of the awesome competitions we are planning for next year.
Basically my job on committee is to run all NDLSS based competitions with the assistance of the Competitions Sub-Committee as well as assisting with sending competitors to compete in external academic competitions such as ALSA.
If you ever need to contact me in regards to competitions please do not hesitate to do so by email or alternatively just give me a shout out in person.

Sports Representative
Michael Lyndon-James
Hi, my name is Mike.
I have just over a year to go in my degree; thankfully it’s time to actually have money in the account! It doesn’t matter what year you’re in it’s a common feeling but remember in most cases work equals money and money equals work. You might be asking how this spiel (so far) is relevant to my role as Sport Rep however, it is entirely relevant. It’s a given that my role entails organising sporting events to enhance the Law Schools image but more importantly it includes ensuring you enjoy your time at University and make the most of every opportunity. Sport offers a great outlet, a good way to get away from those books we all know so well, a way to meet new people and gain some pride in the ND Law School – so get in there!
You can contact me anytime on sport@ndlss.org.au and I am open to any suggestions or requests for Sport in 2010.
Secretary
Sally Millar
Hi everyone! My name is Sally Millar and I am Secretary of the Notre Dame Law Students’ Society in 2010.
As Secretary I am responsible for the general administration and correspondence of the NDLSS, as well as the orgaisation of Society meetings. Please feel free to contact me with any suggestions, queries or issues you wish to raise with the NDLSS at secretary@ndlss.org.au, and I will get back to you as soon as I can. Best of luck in 2010!
Publications Representative
Claire Hawke-Gundill
Hey, I’m Claire. I have finally come to my fifth and final year of my Law/Commerce degree at Notre Dame. Here is my piece of advice to help you make the most of law school: get out there. I mean go to social events, talk to people, compete in academic competitions, hang out around the law school and compete in new sports (even if you have no idea how to play). You will be sitting next to the same people at uni for the next 4 or 5 years – so learn to have a chat and laugh with them.
My role in NDLSS for 2010 should help you get out there. As publications rep my job is to maintain the website (www.ndlss.org.au) and publish the biannual editions of Sundry Crimes. Look to the website for event notification, reviews, photos, general society information and more. The Sundry Crimes should offer you a few laughs, tips, reflections and let you know about our collective achievements as a law school.
If you would like to contribute to these publications, tease me for a spelling mistake or if you have any other queries or requests please contact me at publication@ndlss.org.au or say hello in person!
Final Year Representative
Erin Belser

I’m extra-excited to be part of NDLSS for 2010. We have a really enthusiastic team this year, and we are all dedicated to making your time at Notre Dame one to remember!

Third Year Representative
Michelle Jack
My name is Michelle and I’m your Third Year Rep for the NDLSS. I am studying Bachelor of Laws / Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Economics. As a Year Representative my role isn’t as intensive as most so I will have plenty of time to spend letting you know about everything that is going on. If you have any questions regarding study, careers, social events, competitions or sport then send me an email (thirdyear@ndlss.org.au) or stop me for a chat. I won’t always have the answer but I’m more than happy to try to find out.
Second Year Representative
Zsofia Guczi
Hi, I am Zsofia Guczi and I am in second year.
I am the Second Year Rep and I will represent all second year students. Uni years can be a lot of hard work yet still should be fun and enjoyable so make the most of it! Please email me at secondyear@ndlss.org.au if you have any requests, problems or questions and I would happy to help in any way I can.
First Year Representative
Josh Nissen
Mature Age Representative
Cameron Bourhill
Hi my name is Cam and I am your NDLSS Mature Age representative for 2010. I am in my final year of a post grad law degree and looking forward to a really full on year. Notre Dame is a unique university and as a mature age student I really enjoy being in Fremantle. ND is so close to everything you need and more importantly great coffee (Blink or Moore & Moore take your pick).
As Mature Age Representative, I will represent the mature age population of law in any concerns you may have. Any grief that you may have with any aspect of life at ND, let me know and I will do my best to assist you or to point you in the direction of somebody who can. We will also have plenty of fun along the way with mature age events for everyone to get to know each other.
I have a huge load this year so I should be around library at most times during the week. I will always have time for any concern you may have so make sure you come see me about any little thing or if you just want to say hi. I am looking forward to another memorable and eventful year in ND law.

Social Justice Representative
Rhianna Hall
Hi, my name is Rhianna and I’m the Social Justice representative for 2010. I’m in my fourth year of my Law/Arts degree with a politics major. This year we are planning events that will combine current legal issues and promote social justice in our society. The social justice position also allows me to organise events and seminars that students feel they are affected by, either on campus or off.
Volunteering is a vital part of social justice and I hope to be able to organise a number of organisations that would benefit from law students’ time and we in term receive valuable expeience!
