NDLSS DATABASE OF PERTH COMMUNITY LEGAL CENTRES (CLCs)
The following database was complied to allow all law students the opportunity to access community legal centres and other legal organisation’s in an easy and time effective manner. A major objective of the database is to provide for the law students , who are undertaking the Ethics and the Law ‘LW104’ unit , an easy to use information gateway so that they know where to find various community legal centres within the metropolitan area.
I would like to thank those community legal centres for their permission in publishing this information.

1. CASE for Refugees
CASE for Refugees is a community legal centre, formed by concerned people like you, who are working to ensure that the rights of refugees and asylum seekers are protected. CASE for Refugees aims to strengthen the human rights of asylum seekers, refugees and persons of concern, through legal representation, research, educational initiatives and policy development, and to promote the interests of asylum seekers, refugees and persons of concern individually and collectively through law and public policy. CASE for Refugees is a non-profit, non-government organisation. Volunteers can interview clients, interpret and translating general correspondence, undertake administration tasks, research and much more.

2. Citizens Advice Bureau
Provides advice and information relating to most areas of law including family, civil, consumer, vehicle accidents, neighbourhood disputes, simple wills, powers of attorney and probate. Initial legal advice given, no legal representation. Some Family Court documents provided. Branches situated in Albany, Armadale, Busselton, Fremantle, Joondalup, Kwinana, Mandurah, Midland and Rockingham.

3. Gosnells Community Legal Centre Inc
Gosnells is in the southwest metro area of Perth and provides information, advice and ongoing assistance in family law, Child Support, Welfare Rights, Tenancy, Consumer Credit and Domestic Violence. Representation in court available for restraining order applications and defended hearings. Initial legal advice available in minor criminal and civil law matters. Mediation available in neighbourhood and family disputes. CLE available.

4. Fremantle Community Legal Centre
Provides advocacy with Centrelink, Homewest, other government bodies, financial counselling, legal advice and community legal education. There is an evening legal service twice weekly. Restraining Order Service at the Local Court in Fremantle. Assistance with Judgement Summonses at Local Court. Fortnightly Family Law information session.

5. Marninwarntikura Fitzroy Women’s Resource Centre
The Centre is a family violence prevention unit and provides legal advice and representation and community legal education for women.

6. Mental Health Law Centre
Provision of legal advice and representation for involuntary patients in the mental health system. Referrals for other legal issues. Education on mental health legal issues. The MHLC is also currently providing casework services on other legal problems directly connected to mental illness. Primarily criminal, guardianship and administration, employment and discrimination, criminal (injuries compensation, family and freedom of information and minor civil).

8. Multicultural Services Centre of WA Inc
A specialised legal service for clients mainly from non-English speaking backgrounds. The centre operates as a community legal program within a Multicultural Service. Provides initial advice, minor assistance and casework. Areas of work in family law and civil law. CLE provided to specific ethnic groups on family law, wills and domestic violence.

9. Peel Community Legal Service Inc.
This newly funded service provides Legal Advice Clinics to Mandurah and to the Peel region. Family law information sessions are held fortnightly. CLE forums will be held regularly to increase public awareness of legal rights and responsibilities in areas ranging from neighbour disputes to employee rights. Hours: 9-4.30pm Mon, Tues, Thurs and Fri. Closed to the public on Wednesdays.

10. Southern Communities Advocacy Legal & Education Service
SCALES is a legal education clinic with Murdoch University.

12. Welfare Rights & Advocacy Service (WA)
Specialist legal advice service providing information, advice, advocacy and
assistance with Centrelink, issues and
appeals. We also conduct information sessions on Centrelink appeals process
for clients and community organisations, as well as other community legal
education and welfare reform activities.
We also provide tenancy assistance two days per week.
